Audio:

  • 96 kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter: is compatible with the full performance of all the linear PCM audio formats in the DVD Video standard.
  • "Digital Off" mode eliminates interference when using only analogue output.
  • Sony's exclusive Digital Cinema Sound™ modes: use Virtual Enhanced Surround to create the effect of rear speakers even if you don't have them!
  • Audio Priority: makes Dolby Digital playback convenient. Automatically finds and plays the audio track with the most channels, i.e., the 5.1-channel track.
  • Variable Coefficient (VC) digital filter: a sophisticated audio technology that lets you adjust the character of CD sound between sharp and gentle roll-off to suit the program material.
  • Optical and coaxial digital outputs: for digital-to-digital connections to a DTS®, Dolby® Digital or MPEG® processor or amplifier.

Video:

  • 10-bit/27MHz Video Signal D/A Conversion process with high accuracy resistors and fully optimised video low pass filter (DVD/VCD).
  • Digital Video Noise Reduction (Analogue).
  • Track buffer + 5-frame video cache buffer for smooth playback in both directions and at variable fast/slow speed.
  • Advanced SmoothScan™ picture search with 32-bit RISC microprocessor: for superior scan quality in Frame Advance, Slow Motion (at 1/10 and 1/5 speed) and High-Speed Picture Search (at 2X, 10X and 30X speed)-all in forward and reverse. The Sony unique Smooth Slow is another important feature contributing to the improvement of slow motion.
  • Precision Drive™ base mechanism features the Dynamic Focus optical pickup, a DSP servo (Digital Signal Processing), an exclusive tilt servo, and a high-speed stepping motor. These new devices improve disc trackability, assuring highly accurate playback of both CD and DVD, as well as higher direct disc access speed. This makes scene selection as well as menu operation faster than ever before.
  • Dual Discrete™ optical pickup: has separate lasers optimized for CD (780 nm wavelength) and DVD (650 nm). Enables stable, accurate playback of both types of discs. It eliminates lens switching, reduces laser wear and extends laser life.
  • 10-bit Video Digital-to-Analog Converter: unlike typical 8 or 9-bit designs, it minimizes digital artefacts and renders picture gradations closer to the original movie master.
  • Letterbox/Pan & Scan/16x9 capability so you can choose the way movies from compatible DVD titles appear on your screen.

Convenience:

  • DVD Navigator™ Remote: operates 38 brands of TVs. Phosphorescent glowing keys are easy to use in darkened rooms. And the Jog/Shuttle control adds a touch of professionalism.
  • Menu Disc™ control: on front panel and remote control provides point-and-click simplicity for all on screen menus.
  • Advanced on-screen menus: provide point-and-click selection for play mode, speaker setup, initial setup and parental control. A programming menu gives you visual confirmation of DVD Chapters and CD Tracks programmed and played.

    Soundbite Reviews

"...I found the DVP-S7700 to be an extremely capable performer. With stereo music, the player produced the full range of CD recordings, and had a particularly good knack with vocal presentation. Surround sound movies and music discs also sounded slick: smooth, rich and detailed." -- John Archer, Total DVD (May/June 1999)

Sony's new top-end DVD player, the DVP-S7700, allows you to enjoy movies and music on DVD Video to their fullest potential. The best sound and picture quality with surprising ease-of-use.

Stability and Design for Best Audio and Video Quality
How have Sony made this DVD player (DVP-S7700) even better? Well, they've enhanced the base mechanism to improve speed of access and tracking - you get better and more accurate sound and picture. They've reduced electromagnetic noise by using an aluminium front panel, with copper-plated chassis and screws. And they've cut down on resonance vibrations by developing a newly designed center-loading disc transport system. The dual-discrete laser pick-up uses two independent laser beams for playback of CDs and DVDs. These and many other elements make sound and pictures from Sony's latest DVD player not just better, but truly excellent.

Host of Features for Pure and Perfect Sound
Sony have included many features to improve the sound quality of your DVDs and CDs. For example, they have included a 12.5MHz Optical Digital Output for most accurate data transmission and to reduce jitter. A digital-off mode reduces any interference generated with analogue output signals. They have achieved extra refinement and delicacy of tone by using a copper-plated chassis, glass epoxy circuit boards, and high-quality film capacitors. These improve the subtlety of especially classical music instruments, and add character to the high tones of vocals. You can create a perfect concert hall atmosphere in your own house! And of course this Sony DVD player is compatible with the digital and analogue surround sound formats used for movies and concerts: Dolby Digital®, MPEG audio, DTS®, and Dolby Surround®.

Excellent Video Features for Best Picture Quality
The Sony DVP-S7700 gives you the best picture quality using our highly accurate 10-bit D/A converter for signal processing. The video output possibilities include one component (Y/Cb/Cr), one S-video, and composite video connections.

Slow Motion Mode
The DVP-S7700 features a newly developed smooth slow motion mode, in addition to the usual fast and slow play modes (including the double speed Sony SmoothScan™ with sound).
